Live Salvia Divinorum Plants: Where to Get Your Hands On One

One of the world’s most potent hallucinogens just happens to grow naturally. I’m talking, of course, about Salvia divinorum, the most powerful naturally-occurring hallucinogen known to man. Unlike, say, LSD, which must be created in a laboratory, you can grow your own live Salvia divinorum plant.

But it’s not like you can just head down to your local greenhouse and buy Salvia divinorum. So where do you get your hands on a live salvia plant?

It should come as no surprise that the easiest place to obtain a Salvia divinorum plant is online. Below, I’ve listed some of the premier online shops that offer Salvia divinorum plants (although many of these are often out of stock, so you may need to check out a couple shops before you find one that’s able to ship one out to you).

Also, keep in mind that Salvia divinorum isn’t legal in every state (or in every country if you’re reading this from outside the United States). Check the local laws to make sure you’re compliant before ordering.

With that disclaimer out of the way, here are the top spots to purchase live salvia divinorum plants (note that the prices listed don’t include shipping, and may be subject to change):

Mazatec Garden

Mazatec Garden ships live Salvia plants out of Oregon. Note that, according to the website, there is an 8-week delay.

Sage Wisdom Botanicals

Run by Salvia maestro Daniel Siebert, Sage Wisdom Botanicals may be the gold standard Salvia shop.

$49.95 (but out of stock at the time of this writing),

Botanical Spirit Shop

Botanical Spirit Shop touts its plants as “organic” and “well-established.”

With a name like, you know exactly what you’re getting.

How to Grow Salvia Divinorum

Once you get your hands on a live plant, what do you do with it?

Salvia divinorum can be a somewhat tricky plant to grow. Rather than touching on all the intricate growing instructions here, in what’s intended to be a short article, I’ll point you toward some resources to help you develop your Salvia-specific green thumb.

First, Daniel Siebert’s excellent Sage Wisdom website offers a great guide to propagating and growing Salvia.

Secondly, check out the Salvia Divinorum Grower’s Guide on Amazon.

Philosophy of Salvia

If you’re interested in learning more about Salvia and the crazy philosophical implications of the hallucinations people have when they consume it, check out my book, Summer of Salvia. It takes a look at the history, modern use and religious and philosophical implications of this ancient and powerful plant.
